Looking for dog friendly hotels in Windermere? The Lamplighter welcomes well-behaved dogs, with free parking, a full Cumbrian breakfast and one of the best restaurants in the Lakes on your doorstep. Book direct.
Finding a dog friendly hotel in Windermere that actually means it is harder than it should be. A lot of places tolerate dogs. The Lamplighter genuinely welcomes them.
Your dog gets a proper welcome here, not a reluctant nod and a list of restrictions as long as your lead. Well-behaved dogs are welcome in our Lounge Bar and on the south-facing terrace, which means you’re not banished to your room the moment you fancy a drink. Walk straight in from the fells, find a spot by the fire, and order something from the bar. Your dog will feel at home. So will you.
The Lamplighter has eleven en-suite rooms in a Victorian Lakeland stone building right in the heart of Windermere village. Free private parking on site. A full Cumbrian breakfast every morning. And one of the most celebrated restaurants in the Lake District, for those evenings when you want something more than a pub meal after a long day on the hills.
This is what a dog friendly hotel in Windermere should look like.
Eleven en-suite rooms, each one comfortable enough to make leaving feel like an effort. Victorian Lakeland stone, warm interiors, and everything you need after a day out in the Lakes.
Pet supplement: £10 per dog per night. BUT – if you book direct with us and enjoy a special one-time pet fee of just £10.00 for the entire stay. Please contact us directly when booking to arrange a pet-friendly room, so we can make sure everything is ready for you both on arrival.
The Lamplighter sits in the heart of Windermere village, two minutes from the train station and with some of the finest dog walking in England practically on the doorstep. Orrest Head is a 20-minute walk from the front door. The shores of Windermere are less than a mile away. And if you’re after something more serious, the high fells are within easy reach.
You’ll come back muddy. The car park can handle it. So can we.
Wainwright’s first love – and it starts two minutes from our front door.
The signed path begins near Windermere train station, a two-minute walk from The Lamplighter, and climbs steadily through woodland to the 238-metre summit. Wainwright called it his first love in the fells, and once you see the panorama across Lake Windermere to the Langdale Pikes, it’s easy to understand why.
Well-maintained paths throughout. Keep dogs on leads near sheep on the upper section. Boots recommended after rain.
A quieter, unhurried alternative when all you want is open space and a good stick.
Tucked just below Orrest Head, Common Woods is ideal if your dog prefers space to run without the crowds. Open countryside, good woodland cover and a quieter atmosphere than the more popular routes. The fields here are often calm – a good shout for shy dogs or those who prefer a bit of elbow room.
Perfect for an easy morning stretch before breakfast, or a late afternoon wander before dinner. No real elevation to worry about.
Flat, scenic and right on the water. The best leg-stretch in Bowness.
A flat lakeside walk from Bowness-on-Windermere, 15 minutes on foot from The Lamplighter or a short bus ride down the hill. Cockshott Point offers open green space right on the water’s edge, with off-lead opportunities and wide views across the lake.
Millerground to the north is a favourite with local dog walkers for a longer run without any serious incline. Good for older dogs, or days when the weather makes the idea of a hill feel ambitious.
A proper fell walk with a view worth earning. Finish in Bowness, return for dinner.
Starts in Bowness and climbs through woodland to a viewpoint with sweeping views across Lake Windermere and the fells beyond. There’s a steep section near the start, after which the going becomes considerably easier. Paths can be muddy after rain – boots are worth it.
Dogs are welcome throughout and the woodland return leg makes for a satisfying loop. Combine with a drink in Bowness before heading back to us for dinner.
One of the things that sets The Lamplighter apart as a dog friendly hotel in Windermere is what happens after the walk. You don’t have to leave your dog in the room to have a decent meal.
